The IronPigs are in first place by 6.0 games over P’Tucket and Buffalo. Scranton and Rochester are hard-charging at 6.5 games back and winning lately. The ‘Pigs went 3-2 on their 7 games away from Coca Cola Park (one off day and one rain day). This is the biggest division lead for the Bacon USA squad since last June.
LHP Austin Davis, LHP Zac Curtis, 3B Mitch Walding and RF Dylan Cozens remain with Philadelphia based on injury to JP Crawford, bullpen implosions, and paternity leave for INF Jesse Valentin.
With the IronPigs right now are RHP Mark Leiter, Jr, RHP Hector Neris, RHP Jake Thompson and INF Heiker Meneses.
RHP Ben Lively went on the DL with a shoulder sprain retro to 6/23. Unlike some of the goofy injury things, this is concerning to me because it doesn’t appear to be necessary for roster manipulation. LHP Brandon Leibrandt can probably fill that rotation spot for the ‘Pigs for now, and a couple of the starters in Reading are hitting their stride so moves could be coming. Also, shoulder injuries often suck for pitchers, so my thoughts are with Ben that this is minor.
INF Danny Espinosa joins the team. He’s had some good seasons in the Majors, particularly with Washington. However, his 2018 has been abysmal thus far. The 31 year-old is slashing .190/.236/.276/.512 in 32 AAA games with Oklahoma City and Buffalo. I’m thinking perhaps the Phillies grabbed him off the street given the injuries to JP Crawford and Pedro Florimon at shortstop–to have another player with MLB experience (Dean Anna’s been up with the Yankees and St Louis, and Amarista with Milwaukeee and elsewhere) in the middle of the infield. He’s a switch-hitter, too, which can be advantageous. He’s wearing #3.

The RailRiders lead the season/trophy series 7-5. However, the final 8 games of the 2018 series will take place here at Coca Cola Park, including the next four days. Should the 20-game series end tied, the winner of the August 27 contest will be the nominal victor.
Also interesting with the Yankees visiting Citizens Bank Park tonight for a rare visit. Parent clubs knocking heads as well.
Tonight, Tonight, Tonight
It’s a “dog day” Monday, so bring the pooch and enjoy the centerfield lawn–as well as $1 hot dogs all evening. It’s also “Little League” night, so bring the kiddos and wear your jerseys.
IronPigs ace RHP Enyel De Los Santos will be on the mound for the IronPigs tonight. He’s pitched well in a couple of previous games versus the Moosic squad, but never seems to get good run-support. That’s something to watch tonight.
The IronPigs are:
5-7 vs Scranton overall
2-1 at home vs Scranton
3-5 on Mondays
14-8 in June
7-3 in last 10
15-8 in series openers
33-11 when scoring first
10-15 vs LHP starter (tonight LHP)
30-19 vs IL North
2nd in Avg Attendance in the International League
See you at the park,
