IronPigs 10th Anniversary Team: Third Base

Here we go!  The next installment of the ninth tenth anniversary IronPigs is upon us.  Third Base.

Third base hasn’t been a bastian of talent for the IronPigs through the majority of the ten nine seasons, but there have been some interesting performers.

I don’t count Cody Ransom among them.  I know his back was bothering him while he was here, and he did get a call up to the Phillies, but I’ll still lump him with Terry Tiffee and JJ Furmaniak for our purposes around here.

By way of disclosure, I do own a Mike Cervenak jersey.  He “moved in mysterious ways” and was certainly popular with the ladies.  He, Andy Tracy, and Rich Thompson were the only reason to come to the park for quite a while.  But I just can’t pull the trigger here at the hot corner.  He was more of a DH than a third baseman, by my recollection.

Cody Asche has always been a friend of the Nation.  We’re big fans around here and we always wanted to see him do well–even after he moved to left field.  As an IronPig Cody played at a high level and was part of many great wins for the IronPigs during his tenure here.

But ultimately, it didn’t work out with the Phillies and for that reason, the Noise Nation endorsement for 10th Anniversary Team Third Base goes to Maikel Franco.  He improved in front of our eyes, hit for the cycle and hit a grand slam on his birthday.  What more could you want?
