“It ain’t over ’til it’s over”
The IronPigs won a rain-shortened game in Moosic last night against the little Yankees after a tarp-malfunction prevented them from even attempting to finish the game. Luckily, the Pigs were up 4-1 and they had 5 full innings in. Interestingly, a similar incident happened back in 2014 when we were there! –couldn’t get the tarp on properly and the rain just decimated the infield making it unplayable.
The win was welcome, though, after the Bacon Boys lost Tuesday on a Hinojosa melt-down. Then, they lost Wednesday 10-0 after we made the trip up to cheer them on. The 1-2 record in the 3-game series wasn’t optimal, of course, especially for the IronRail, but Rochester posted the same record against last-place Syracuse, so our playoff spot is still secure.
Division: 3 games back of Scranton
Wild Card: 5.5 games up on Rochester, 8 games up on P’tucket
The 18-game IronRail series requires 10 wins to secure this season, or win the final game in a tie. So we’re still in it and can win it with a 2-game sweep at Coca Cola Park 8/22-23–a week from Monday.
RHP Gregory Infante assigned to Reading (AA).
LHP Hoby Milner promoted to LHV from Reading (AA).
In addition, INF Carlos Alonso who is out with a “right shin contusion” will be trying his hand at coaching. He’s in Williamsport right now helping out with the short-season ‘A’ club.
First Pitch: 7:05PM Gates: 5:45PM Club: 5:30PM
Seats are very limited for tonight’s game. Grab tickets ahead of time, and GA is a likelihood.
The Indianapolis Indians are the AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. This is their only visit to Coca Cola Park this season, and the conclusion of the season series. The Indians are 59-61 and in second place in the IL West. Prospects to watch are: 1B Josh Bell and OF Austin Meadows. Some of their better pitchers are either on the DL or up with Pittsburgh, or both.
LHP Adam Morgan (6-1, 3.04) is scheduled to start for the IronPigs, facing RHP Frank Duncan (8-5, 2.41) a Pirates prospect out of Kansas.

It’s hot. And, humid. With those conditions, the chance of a thundershower popping up in significant. With only a three game series, and with similar risk the next two games as well, they will make every attempt to get this on in tonight, regardless. Count on the possibility of a significant delay if a shower does pop up. Plus, here in Allentown, we know how to work the tarps! Another note for fans: With this game approaching sell-out status, count on some significant crowds and stake out your rain shelter early.
SS JP Crawford was on the bench the last two games. I haven’t seen any report as to why, but he looked like he was possibly suffering from a stomach bug or the like. I’m only guessing, though, and hope to see him back in the lineup soon.
Philadelphia suffered another starting pitcher injury the other day, so there’s a possibility we lose another one from the IronPigs rotation. As we go to (word) press, rumors of a Buchanan call-up are floating. Morgan could get scrubbed from tonight. Russell could go back to starting. We’ll have to wait and see. For Reading, Pivetta has had a couple really solid outings in a row, so that’s also a possibility for the IronPigs. I’ve been listening for any possibility of an Alec Asher rehab/return from his suspension, as well.
See you at the park,
