IRONPIGS TODAY: “A New Sheriff…” 8/7/2016

“Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. That’s the way life is, with a new game every day, and that’s the way baseball is. ”
-Bob Feller

Yesterday I said we needed a new “ace,” with Jake Thompson off to Philadelphia by way of San Diego.  Enter Adam Morgan.  Morgan had a no-hitter going–at least deep enough in the game to make us not want to change our seats or say the wrong words…

But the bats got going and that helped everyone in the 7-2 IronPigs victory over Rochester.

The team remains 2.0 games back of division leader Scranton, but opens the Wild Card margin to 4.5 over the Red Wings.

Roster Moves

LHP Elvis Araujo recalled by Philadelphia.

LHP Anthony Vasquez promoted to LHV from Reading (AA).

OF Osmel Aguila promoted to LHV from Reading (AA).

RHP Jake Thompson had contract selected by Philadelphia.

LHP Elvis Araujo added to Lehigh Valley roster (optioned by PHI, 8/5).

OF Peter Bourjos assigned to LHV for Major League rehab assignment.

Printable Roster:  2016 LHV Roster-8-6

Other Notes:  Andrew Bailey declined his assignment and was granted his unconditional release.  LHP Brett Oberholtzer was DFA’d, and we await the results thereof.

There are seats available for today’s game, but the good ones are going fast.

RHP Ben Lively (6-4, 3.50) takes the mound to face LHP Jason Wheeler (9-2, 2.81).  Wheeler lost to Lehigh Valley on 7/6/2016.

Kram’s Korner

Good to get the win last night and get off the schnide.  Hearing good things vis-a-vis quotes out of the locker room about the confidence and resolve of the team.  It was only three games in the losing streak, but with roster fluctuations continuing, I have to admit I was worried (still am) about an extended losing stretch that might knock us out of playoff contention.

Sunday Fun Day as we get to watch Ben pitch and then head over to the Soul game where they take on a 2-13 team in the first round of the playoffs.  2-13?  Sheesh, feel like my $55 tickets (plus fees) might be a tad over-priced up in here.

See you at the park–and the arena,

  1. Quality way to kill off a bad patch of form pretty much right away and not let it grow into something that becomes impossible to get rid of. An International League playoff spot is definitely something to aspire to and always appreciated here in America’s Mecca of Minor League Sports. Make it happen, 2016 IronPigs.

  2. Kram– my seats were “discounted” to $75 each!! So two choices, stay home and watch on ESPN or enjoy the arena—where you can still get RIVETS—- on another note, huge day for Pigs today—watch out for Red Sox
