I used to dread doubleheaders.  It’s not that 14 innings of baseball is bad or anything.  There’s even an intermission!  It was simply that it wasn’t the best opportunity for the IronPigs to win anything.  Our club almost never won both, so the best we could realistically hope for was a split.  And often we’d just lose both.

But this team is different.  More games means more opportunity to win.  Morgan pitched well in the second game, Cedric Hunter had himself a day, Altherr played in the second game–it was all good.  Even when they fell behind a bit in the second game there was no sign that they wouldn’t keep battling.

Meanwhile, Scranton won both ends of their doubleheader, so we don’t gain any ground on the division.  Rochester lost both yesterday and Monday, so we do get a little breathing room in the Wild Card race headed into Rochester for the weekend.  At 8-2 the IronPigs are the hottest team in the entire International League over the last 10 games.

Kram’s Korner

A day game today, and an off day yesterday–another opportunity for me to be nervous about a letdown.  Lively is due for a good start.  I’ve observed he’s working on some things with more advanced control and pitching to contact somewhat–it’s just the situations the last couple times out haven’t been ideal with errors behind him and bats not hitting and the like.  I’m hoping everything clicks today.

Then off to Reading.  They’re inducting their Hall of Famers tonight; it should be a nice night in Baseballtown.
