“I love doubleheaders. That way I get to keep my uniform on longer.”
I never really thought it had a chance–went over anyway because we’d been away for a while and wanted to hang out. I blew it, though. The correct move last night would have been to drive from Coca Cola Park to Reading, where they started an hour late.
The IronPigs picked up a half-game in the Wild Card standings last night when Rochester lost. The lead for the WC is now 2.0 games; the deficit in the division is now 3.0 (to Scranton, also postponed last night).
By now, you’ve seen the roster cascade from yesterday. No word on Tobias from Lakewood to Clearwater yet, which is the next move some prospect-watchers have been noting. No serious word on a trade yet, either, but Hellickson did pitch well last night with many MLB scouts in attendance.
I had expected we’d see Aaron Altherr rehab last night and tonight, skip the day game and get activated late Wednesday/early Thursday. With the loss of last night’s game, I’m guessing he’ll play in one game tonight, perhaps pinch hit (NL Affiliate) in the other, and then play in tomorrow’s day game.
One-ticket doubleheader for fans holding tickets to TONIGHT’S game (Tuesday July 26). Fans holding tickets for last night’s game may trade them for equal or lesser value, any game remaining in the season including tonight. The exchange must take place at the ticket window. I don’t believe they even attempted to collect parking last night, but if you paid for parking make sure you get a voucher for your makeup date. For STH, I believe that is our third rain credit game–make sure you use them! Memo to management: If there are playoff games, perhaps allow anyone holding rain checks or unused credits to use them towards the playoff games as well. Just a thought. I might be counting chickens and stuff, but I’m already thinking of ways to fill up that park for the playoff games–as best we can.
First Pitch, Game 1: 6:05PM ALL GATES: 5:00PM Second Game to follow; 7-innings each.
Many seats still remain for tonight’s game(s).
It’s listed this way on the IronPigs web page, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jake Thompson scratched so that he can remain on-start with Hellickson. Thompson was seen throwing last night, but I’m unsure how much.
Saturday (and Sunday) are still before the trade deadline, though, and I think the Phillies have an off-day in there to help. We’ll see; the IronPigs have an off-day on Thursday, as well, which will allow them to use two starters tonight if Brundage so desires. Starters subject to change:
RHP Jake Thompson (9-5, 2.29) vs RHP Taylor Hill (4-8, 4.25)
LHP Adam Morgan (3-1, 3.82) vs LHP Aaron Laffey (4-3, 3.89)
Cooper Cash Giveaway
Weather: Another steamy one, but rain shouldn’t be a problem (Lack of it for my garden, yes. Baseball, no.)
With Scott Kingery now in Reading, and Roman Quinn starting his rehab in Florida, I’m even more excited by that Reading lineup headed into the playoff push. Certainly, they’re comfortable in first place, but I thought they looked a little impatient and uninspired in the weekend series with the Yard Goats. I don’t expect many more roster moves–perhaps another pitcher from Clearwater–but this group is going to be difficult to deal with:
- Quinn CF
- Kingery 2B
- Alfaro C
- Cozens RF
- Hoskins 1B
- Pullin LF
- Fox/Martinez 3B
- Serna/Mora SS
See you at the park,
