“I came to realize in my late 20’s that my velocity is not going to grow, so I had to learn to utilize what I had.”
The IronPigs got back to their winning ways last night with a 2-1 victory over the road-weary Knights at Coca Cola Park. Tony Vasquez pitched a gem, throwing all manner of curves, sliders and changes, some as slow as 65MPH. I can’t say I agree with his decision to go to first with an easy out at home available, but it all worked out in the end.
The Moosic team won as well, and the Bisons are the North’s hottest team, so we remain 3.0 games back of the lead in the IL North.
Fire-balling RHP Jimmy Cordero began his rehab in Clearwater with the GCL team earlier today. He’s been on our DL the entire season thus far with a cranky shoulder/bicep/something.
The bats have been a bit quiet of late; I’m feeling an explosion coming on. Feather and Ruffy had two hits apiece last night, and prospects JP and Nicky added one each–although both had good at-bats all night I thought, with maybe one exception.
First Pitch: 7:05PM; Gates: 5:45PM; Club 5:30PM
Seats still available for tonight’s contest.
‘Pigs ace RHP Jake Thompson (6-5, 2.88) will be on the bump to face RHP Tyler Danish (0-2, 11.57, in two starts with Charlotte)
- Wiffle Ball set for kiddos
- Post-game Fireworks sponsored by Cooper Cheeses
Weather and Caps:
Thunderstorms popping up all over, but it looks like they’ll be able to get this one in. I’m still up to date with my hats; tonight will be black (of course) either bacon or 2016 IronHeads bottle opener cap.
My phone died during last night’s game. Not the battery went dead–the thing just bricked itself. It did it once before–it’ll reboot when the battery dies. Anyway, it was kind of refreshing to just watch the game without checking my phone every other batter.
However, I couldn’t rant about the play at first, the questionable umpiring, or the fact that Diggity didn’t run out the Pork Race and will now be in Brundy’s doghouse for a couple games.
Link of the Day
I’m still upset by what I feel was shoddy reporting in the Nick Williams fiasco earlier this week–and the blogosphere was even worse. So for now, no links to anybody else’s work until somebody does something decent to redeem themselves.
I also didn’t want to write too much publicly about Clearwater pitching prospect Matt Imhof and his eye injury. However, if anyone has any questions, you can ask privately and I can answer them. Of course, my thoughts are with Matt during his recovery and subsequent surgeries. It will be difficult, but there is the possibility that he could pitch with one eye.
See you at the park,
PS: “IronPigs Today” goes on hiatus for the weekend, and will return on Wednesday July 6 when Rochester comes to town for a two-game set. The Pigs are in Moosic Monday and Tuesday, then finish the “first half” with three up in Buffalo prior to the All Star Break.
