IRONPIGS TODAY: “Walkin’ On Sunshine” 6/17/2016

We take a break from your regularly scheduled program as our friend Kram is making his way toward Sunny shores. I’ll do my best to fill his writing shoes.

I’m walking on sunshine, wooah
I’m walking on sunshine, wooah
I’m walking on sunshine, wooah
And don’t it feel good!!
I’ll say it again now
And don’t it feel good!!

Last Night

Those who have attended at least few games at Coca-Cola Park often noticed many folks leaving often during the 7th inning no matter what the score is. Unfortunately in the last 3 days

those who left early missed two exciting walk-off wins including last night’s 11 inning thriller.

Jake Thomson contributed not only 8 outstanding innings, 111 pitches 5 hits and 1 run for the ‘Pigs but also brought in a crucial run to tie the game.  Edward Mujica and Frank Herrmann finished the evening each surrendering one hit and zero runs.

The IronPigs (37-29) pounded out 10 hits and left a whopping 14 runners on base while going 1-13 with runners in scoring position. Stats don’t always tell the story – a win is a win!

Andrew Knapp’s single in the bottom of the 11th scored Emmanuel Burriss who previously reached on a single for the 2nd exciting walk-off win during this sweep of the Gwinnett Braves.

Team Report

Rochester has now won 5 in a row to go along with the ‘Pigs current 3 game streak and Scranton lost to Toledo last night so the Pigs still remain 2.5 games out of the lead in the IL North but did gain one on the ‘Riders.

In the month of June the IronPigs are an amazing 11-4 and lead the league in HR (61) and SLG (.415), 2nd in OPS (.739), 3rd in .AVG (.261), Triples (19) and TB (902), 4th in Runs (288) and 10th in SO.

Today’s Game

The Buffalo Bisons (35-31) thunder in for a 4 game home stand with a day-night doubleheader coming up on tomorrow.

The scheduled pitching matchup tonight brings veteran and former MLB & IronPigs’ hurler Chris Leroux (32) 4-4 3.36 vs. young talent and last week’s IL pitcher of the week Ben Lively (24) 3-0 2.08.

First Pitch: 7:05 PM and it looks like another fine night for some baseball.

It should be a good one!

DiPro’s Dish

I would like to regale a short story about something I saw at Coca-Cola Park this season. With the proliferation of peanut allergies these days some folks are hesitant to attend a baseball game – my daughter included. However, I have seen IronPigs’ Executive Chef Jerry Rogers come out from his kitchen and speak directly with a couple regarding their child’s allergy so they were completely at ease. Kudos to the IronPigs and especially Chef Jerry!

We’ll see ya at the Park!

  1. If he won’t be back that quickly, guess who has to pick up the roster updates… and there was just one today (17)…

  2. DiPro— lets go! Another walk off win Friday night–where’s the column? A few adult bevs I guess. Seriously though, these Pigs are hot–every player the Phils call up, the Pigs back ups do better. Enjoy the double dip today–as for the Kram– the shore on a double header Saturday, we expect better Doc.
