“Show me a guy who’s afraid to look bad, and I’ll show you a guy you can beat every time.”
– Lou Brock
About Last Night
It was a good night to be in the seats for the whole game: What started out as an interesting AAA debut for RHP Ben Lively, and a possible perfect-game by Reds top-prospect Robert Stephenson, turned into a come-back, maybe a walk off, and then a loss. With a bull-pen game on tap for today, of course we went extras and lost in the 11th. Of course with the rehab, we do have one (extra) guy available, in LHP Mario Hollands. Cam Perkins finished up the game at 1B, which was interesting.
The Good: Lively with the solid game. Asche with a big catch in left and a double-not-homer at a crucial time. Ruf with a homer and a couple nice stabs at first. Williams shaking off four K’s to get a crucial hit. Brundage with the Sandberg-esque tossing of the umpire.
The Bad: Asche with a mis-play in left. Williams with those four K’s. Garcia with the hanging pitch sent for a homer. LaFromboise with another shaky outing. Mariot unable to go a second clean inning when we needed it.
The Ugly: The strike zone seemed to be floating around all night–and quite generous at times. Asche’s hit was probably a homer, and they were very quick to toss Brundy: Ryan Clark behind the plate, Ortiz at first tossed Brundage, and Joe Born at third.

The IronPigs remain above .500 and maintain a 6-4 “last 10.” With all the teams within 4.5 games, it’s important to just keep grinding. We’ll find the wins–just need to avoid losing the win-able games whenever we can.
INF Carlos Alonso sent to New Hampshire to help out the Fightins as they lose 3B Harold Martinez to an ankle. He’ll get more playing time and at-bats there; I expect him to return. If a corresponding move is announced, we’ll have a roster post later today.

LHP James Russell (1-0, 0.68) takes the mound for the third time in a spot start to face RHP Keyvius Sampson (1-1, 2.66 in 8 games/3 starts with Bats) who had 12 starts with the Reds last season (2-6, 6.54).

It’s Saturday, so we wear red. My 2015 vintage Pigs bacon jersey is nice and cool for this hot day, and I’ll find a cap to match that–perhaps the 2014 stars and stripes/bell cap.
The coffee klatch in front of me finally broke up after a few innings, allowing me to enjoy the game a little better last night. I have to credit the foul ball which landed near by, alerting the transgressors to the dangers of not paying attention and not even facing the field. The thing is, in the club level, there’s a whole indoor, climate controlled, area for you to socialize. If you’re not going to pay attention to the game, go in there. Kids hanging over the railing seems to be more of a problem as well–and we have fewer and fewer ushers all the time. Things aren’t perfect in my Reading section, either, but I found myself missing those seats over the first few innings last night.
Link of the Day
Our buddy Jay Floyd from Phoulballz had a nice interview with Reading pitcher John Richy up this morning.
