I was really looking forward to meeting Mark. First, he’s got a great name. Second, the pitching pedigree is top-notch and I expect him to possibly become a fan-favorite at Coca Cola Park this summer. Finally, he’s a compelling story; he stands at a bit of a crossroads in his career. We’ll have a front row seat in Allentown this summer, and an opportunity to cheer him on.
In reading other interviews with Mark, I could tell he was a forthright individual. I also wanted to ask him a bit about two-seam and four-seam fastballs based on what I had read about his experience in the Houston organization. Finally, from following him on Twitter, I knew he was (is) a man of faith, and while I don’t always feel like that’s an appropriate line of questioning given the personal nature of the topic, in this case I felt like it was a good way for us to get to know him better.
