…and you can bet bacon is heavily involoved! A week’s worth of new food previewed:
On “National Pig Day” over at Coca Cola Park, we did some poking around, and mostly everybody was tight-lipped. Once source did reveal that many new concession items would be introduced on the main concourse. Another mention told us that a BBQ Rib platter of sorts will be added to the Club Bar menu. Further details to come, as well as whether that rib-item will be available at the Oasis, Hot Corner, or Pig Pen.
Here’s how our “week of food” rolled out:
A new pulled-pork “sub” of sorts will include a thick slice of bacon, nacho cheese, onion rings and scallions. Scallions are vegetables. It’s a balanced meal, really.
We heard rumors about this one on Pig Day: It’s an extra-thick slab of bacon on a stick, dipped in funnel cake batter, and deep fried. Add some sugar in case it’s not enough carbs. I heard the stick may be laced with Lipitor, so Pig Out fans, it’s not that bad! 😉
More funnel and more bacon came on Tuesday afternoon: A traditional funnel cake, topped with powdered sugar, syrup, and bacon. Looks like a little creme fraiche on the side there, too!
Introducing, the “Mac Daddy Dog.” It’s an all-beef frank topped with mac-n-cheese, bacon, and scallions. It’s a complete meal!
More Mac for Wednesday: A mac-n-cheese parfait features layers of mac separated by pulled pork and topped with…….you guessed it: bacon and scallions. It’s a meal in a cup!
Chicken Cordon-Bleu Cheesesteak. Ham slices with ground chicken in a white-cheddar sauce topped with scallions. Does anyone else think the IronPigs got a deal on scallions this off-season? I would discourage the use of freeze-dried scallions. If anything, get some interns out back to plant some. I usually keep a little patch of them in my garden so that I don’t have to constantly buy them over the summer.
Another riff on a cheesesteak, the Pigs will also feature a buffalo chicken cheesesteak. The popular variation features shredded chicken with hot sauce, smothered in bleu cheese and topped with–wait for it–scallions. This makes two in a row today with no bacon. Somebody wanna give a call over to The Coke and make sure everybody’s OK? Does Chef Jerry think this is #ScallionUSA ? Would bacon really hurt a chicken cheesesteak in any form? Could we make that slab of bacon from Monday an add-on for ANY sandwich at The Coke?
“Make your own nachos” You know, I love nachos. But there’s always that one extra thing some restaurant decides to add to make it “different”–that I don’t like. Make your nachos your way! And yes, those are scallions–call ’em green onions if you want….
Adult floats. Use alcoholic soda, add some ice cream, and you’ve got a refreshing adult treat for a warm summer night. All contained within a mason jar. I’m assuming the mason jar is plastic–they’re not going to give us glass to carry around the park, are they?
No word on where the latest menu items will be available, or how much they’ll cost. We’ll update in a new post when we find out!
Pig Out, Fans,
See you at WeightWatchers, (I’ll be the one with bacon and scallions on my breath)
