Good News / Bad News, as SteelHawks Opener Approaches

The “Kickoff Classic” leading into the 2016 SteelHawks campaign is but five days away!  We get a bit of the good news and the bad as the game approaches:

Good News:  The SteelHawks are the #2 ranked team headed into the season.  They are second only to the PIFL defending champion Columbus Lions, whom we know quite well.

Bad News:  No cushy opener:  The “Kickoff Classic” will be played against the #3 team, the Philadelphia Yellow Jackets–thought to have the best QB in the league going into the season.

Here are the full pre-season ranks, courtesy of The Gridiron Crew:

Other News:  The SteelHawks will be featured in their own team-update show–such as the Phantoms’ Breaking the Ice–on Monday nights just prior, at Chickie’s and Pete’s.  Tonight, join coach Chris Thompson and GM/VP Mike Clark for a taping of Beyond the Walls.  It will be taped ‘LIVE’ but will be broadcast at a later date.  Stay tuned!

Saturday PreGame:  Looking for something to do before the ‘Hawks game on Saturday?  The Phan Nation Phantoms fan club is hosting a “watch party” at Crust from 6PM-10PM.  They are featuring a pizza buffet and prize giveaways and raffles as the Phantoms prepare to face off against the Senators (with Zack Stortini and Jason Akeson) up in Binghamton.  It is open to the public, and costs $22–but you’ll be able to grab some pizzas, snacks, and beverages (soft drinks included with buffet, but bar is cash) prior to the game.  Email for more information or to reserve your spot.

Outlook:  We’re making every attempt to provide you with the best pre- and post-game coverage of the SteelHawks this season.  Stay tuned for a “Football Night” game day post, and full post-game reaction and photos.  Despite the tough opponent this week, it should provide a nice gauge for where the team is headed into the season, in a game which won’t count as much in the standings.  Plus, it should be a good, close game!

See you at the arena,
