IronPigs Unveil 2016 Promo Schedule:

In years gone by, this was an important day in my house.  The kiddos would check out the new promo schedule and choose the game(s) they wanted to go to.  There was a draft order and everything.  Now I have enough seats for everybody, and the kids are too big and cool to really care.  They’ll go or not based on mood, when game-day arrives.

So here we are in 2016, and the IronPigs always do it right.  Weekday in early season?  You can be there will be a cool giveaway like a bobble-head in order to pump up attendance.  It’s just smart marketing.  The Phantoms could learn something, you know.  I always get slammed for comparing them, but they both get so much of my time and money, I feel like I’m entitled.  The recent Wednesday hockey game with really poor turnout?  What if there had been a Stortini bobble-head for the first 4,000 fans?  I bet you would have seen more butts in the seats then.  Plus, more folks getting there early to assure that they got one.

I know, there are challenges with the arena–multiple entry points and such.  It’s hard to align sponsors with the mid-week games, and so far they’ve mostly avoided the whole “I’m a season ticket holder why don’t I get the giveaway” problem that has plagued the IronPigs for years.  We know the answer:  Get there earlier, buy the season-pass for the giveaways (STH only) or grab a club-level seat for that night.  And we know why:  Sponsors are not going to pay for 10,000 bobble-heads.  It’s just too much.

But I digress.  Here’s your giveaway schedule for 2016.  Keep in mind, additions will be made, and some tweaks possibly, too, as the season gets closer.  It’s preliminary, but it’s also cool.  Read below, and I’ll tell you what the highlights are:

Also, keep in mind the weekly “base schedule:”

  • Sundays: Post-game “Kids Run the Bases” presented by Children’s Hospital at Lehigh Valley Health Network.
  • Mondays: Dollar Dog Night with $1 hot dogs for the entire game (Exclusions: May 30, Sept. 5)
  • Wednesday: “Ladies Night” with opportunities for all women to win great prizes and take part in on-field promotions.
  • Thursdays: Extended pre-game Happy Hour now from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with $1 hot dogs and $2 domestic drafts.
  • Fridays: Friday Night Fireworks.
  • Saturdays (beginning in May): Post-game Fireworks.  (Making Saturdays official.  Will they keep the trough party afterwards?  Will that guy have to pay for more out-of-town hotel rooms?  All good questions…)

Here’s what I’m looking forward to:

  1. Knit Cap:  Always handy earlier in the season, and Kram 3 is a big fan of them.
  2. Human Cannon Ball:  That’s gotta be cool, right?
  3. Santa Cap:  Kram 3 also a big fan of these…
  4. Hockey Night:  I’ve got like a million dollars worth of hockey jerseys, so… But anyway, would be ironic if the Phantoms are in the playoffs and play at home that night…
  5. Nola bobble.  It’s the only player one this year, eh?

Have fun, we’ll see you at the park,

@Kram209

  1. Do you know why it always takes them so long to post the downloadable schedule? http://atmilb.com/1TxtIcb

    • From what I understand, there are some ways that Minor League Baseball is changing the downloadable format for this season, which has delayed things for the IronPigs. I’m looking forward to it, too. Usually the Reading version is a few weeks behind the IronPigs version, as well.

They tell me it’s coming soon, though.
