RHP David Buchanan optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley
LHP Cesar Jimenez contract selected by Philadelphia
“Buck” struggled last night in Arizona, and overall hasn’t had his best season this year. He’ll come back to try to find his mojo, and join an already-crowded rotation. However, with a day-night doubleheader on tap for Saturday, the extra starter could come in handy. Just the same, should Sev Gonzalez get healthy, you’re looking at a seven-man rotation.
The writing on the wall is that someone will need to go up to fill Buck’s spot with the Phillies. Right now, the most likely candidate would be Jerad Eickhoff, the newly-acquired Texas arm. We’ll see if he starts Friday in Allentown, or if he gets promoted without ever having pitched at Coca Cola Park (his outings have been on the road.)
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that someone returns to Reading to help with their playoff run–although I can’t think of who it would be at this juncture. The other possibility is that Sean O’Sullivan, who’s not been sharp of late, could be the guy to go up or could be the guy to go to the bullpen.
As for Cesar, we wish him well. It hasn’t been his best season, either, and my confidence level in him is not as high as it once was. Still, he’s a veteran lefty, and they can DFA him as needed for the roster spot, while Adam Loewen went two innings in last night’s Phillies’ debacle.
Stay tuned, for
