Despite the recent “winning ways” of our IronPigs, the playoffs are likely out of reach due to the deep hole we’ve dug in the standings earlier in the season. However, there’s still a trophy up for grabs, and the next four days may go a long way in deciding the outcome.
It’s the IronRail, of course, and after falling into a 4-2 hole, the IronPigs are now leading 5-4 after sweeping three in a row as June came to a close and July came in. Now, we head up to the “woods of Moosic” for two quick games, before coming home for another two with the Trolley Riders; then we’ll finish up this stretch with a weekend series visit from Norfolk.
Here are the projected pitching match-ups and game notes for this home-and-home series (we’ll preview Norfolk on Friday):
Monday: at SWB, 7:05PM @PigsRadio with Darius Thigpen: 1230/1320AM; LHP Anthony Vasquez vs. RHP Esmil Rogers (1-0, 3.38); If you’re going–dollar hot dog night.
Tuesday: at SWB, 7:05PM–@PigsRadio with Darius Thigpen: 1230/1320AM; LHP Jesse Biddle vs. RHP Diego Moreno (3-0, 2.18); If you’re going–Phillie Phanatic Appearance (whah?) and T-Shirt Tuesday IronPig baiting:
Wednesday: CCP, 7:05PM; RHP Aaron Harang *Rehab Appearance* vs. RHP Luis Severino (6-0, 2.11) *Top Prospect*; Game Note: Not sure how many pitches Harang will throw; if on a limited pitch count, Sean O’Sullivan is the normally scheduled starter and could “piggy back.” Severino is said to be “not available” in a trade for Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels, but this game is one before the trade deadline–just something to watch if Luis makes his scheduled start. If you’re going: Laidies Night; Sunglass Giveaway.
Thursday: CCP, 7:05PM; TBD (could be O’Sullivan, Buchanan, or Severino Gonzalez) vs. RHP Bryan Mitchell (5-5, 3.12); “Outdoor Night” with Camo-Cap giveaway (adults, 3,000). Pre-game happy hour 5-6, featuring $1 hot dogs and $2 domestic drafts.
In other IronPigs news, still no word on a possible Chase Utley rehab. The last whisper was “maybe by the weekend” which would be the Norfolk series as the IronPigs are home Friday, Saturday and Sunday–but nothing concrete and no assurance that the rehab would even take place in Allentown. As the trade deadline approaches, there are a lot of uncertainties, including Thursday’s starting pitcher, above.
See you at the park,
