“There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a [bat] over there
Telling me I got to beware”

The IronPigs split a series with the Mud Hens–still playing some good ball and not giving up on the season; however, not gaining much ground in the standings, either as the season starts to slip away.
A late roster move yesterday had RHP Chris Leroux added the the Inactive List for personal reasons, and catcher Logan Moore re-added from Reading.
Severino Gonzalez back on the mound tonight at home. In his other start since the break, he went through the order the first time, holding Rochester hitless. Things fell apart in the 5th inning, though, and again in the 7th for 3 earned runs each. Let’s see how he does tonight, both to start the game, and as the game wears on.
OF Aaron Altherr, “The Rhineland Rocket,” continues on his “tear” homering and hitting a double last night. I kind of feel like it might be September before they get him to Philly, but he certainly has the look of a major leaguer. Of course, everything will be impacted by potential trades–both at the “deadline” as well as the “waiver” variety in August.
Syracuse comes in 5-5 in their last 10, having lost two in a row. They just finished up a series in Buffalo, where they dropped three of four. We haven’t seen them in Allentown since the opening home stand in April.
Syracuse Roster Notes: OF Jayson Werth and his gorgeous beard will be along for the ride as he continues his rehab. He didn’t play last night–DH the night before going 1-for-5. He’s hitting .333 in his rehab. RHP Prospect AJ Cole is not expected to appear versus Lehigh Valley this series. You’ll recognize former-Pigs OF Tony Gwynn Jr, C Steven Lerud, OF Darin Mastroianni, 3B Chris Nelson, and RHP PJ Walters.
Tonight is an umbrella giveaway in addition to the fireworks. Tomorrow is the “Xmas” game with the Elf jersey auction–and the post-game concert, and Sunday the Phanatic appears.
After these three games, the ‘Pigs will head up the highway to Moosic for a quick two game set against the Rail Monkeys, before coming back to complete the home-and-home. We’ll review the IronRail standings coming up.
See you at the park,
