IronPigs Welcome New Reliever

Moments ago, the IronPigs claimed RHP Dalier Hinojosa on waivers from Boston.  The 29yo Cuban had appeared in 19 games with Pawtucket this season, and one with Boston.  He had been DFA’d by Boston.

In the IL this season, Hinojosa has a 3-1 record with an ERA of 3.21.  He has recorded 39 strikeouts against 17 walks, and reportedly throws in the 94-95MPH region.  Last season, the 6’1″ 230-lb newcomer appeared in 41 games for the PawSox, 3-5, 3.79, and converted 3 of 7 save opportunities.  Prior to last season, Hinojosa pitched in Cuba.

He’ll join the IronPigs in Rochester, and I’d expect the travel and paperwork to be completed such that he’d be available for tomorrow’s “Nola Day” start.  The Phillies have the roster space on both the 40-man as well as the AAA roster, so why not take a chance on a guy they like?  The significance for the IronPigs is that we may be in line to lose a guy like Adam Loewen and/or Nefi Ogando to the Majors soon.

Stay tuned,

@Kram209

  1. He pitched at Coca-Cola Park against the Ironpigs last week (July 8th). He went 3.2 innings, allowed 5 hits, 4 runs but only 1 was earned. He struck out 5 and walked 2. It was the game the Ironpigs fell behind 8-1 and came back to win 9-8. He was the pitcher who came in when Joe Kelly got hit in the forearm by a line drive and couldn’t pitch beyond the 1st inning.
