Reports today suggest that the Philadelphia Flyers will be playing an NHL pre-season game at the PPL Center in Allentown this September. Plus, a couple possible Phantoms head coaching candidates emerge.
Frank Seravalli of the Philly Daily News is reporting today that the Philadelphia Flyers will schedule one of their NHL preseason games at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA–the home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. It should become official shortly, as some NHL teams have already released their entire preseason schedule.
There has been no speculation yet as to the opponent for the game. I would imagine that Phantoms Season Ticket Holders will have the opportunity to purchase our seats for this game prior to their sale to the general public. Or, perhaps other than the Club Sections, we’ll merely have the opportunity to purchase some seats, not necessarily our own. Because this is an NHL exhibition, I see no way that they include this in our season ticket package–we’ll likely get one or two AHL preseason match-ups included instead.
Also in Phantoms news today, Sons Of Penn are reporting that Erie Otters head coach Kris Knoblauch is being considered as a candidate for the potentially vacant Phantoms head coaching position. Phantoms assistant Riley Cote is also in the mix, according to the report. Of course, 2014-2015 head coach Terry Murray has not officially moved on, but multiple sources have reported that he’ll be joining the Flyers as an assistant/defensive coach.
While we may get details of the Flyers’ preseason schedule sooner–perhaps as soon as the press conference tomorrow–much of the coaching movement probably won’t be finalized until after the NHL draft, June 26-27.
Stay tuned, and I’ll see you at the arena,
