IronPigs Roster Update: Asche Back Up

Just over the inter-webs, Cody Asche is on his way to Philadelphia instead of Charlotte.  He went 4 for 9 in the Gwinnett series, including a home run.  His play in left field has been “above the line” by all accounts, although there have been some questionable throws.  As always, we wish Cody well–he’s one of our favorites around here.

A “corresponding move” will be made by the Phillies in time for the game tonight versus Colorado at CBP.  Whenever I hear that the corresponding roster move is delayed, I always suspect that the Phillies are waiting for a player to clear waivers.  Another possibility is that a player has an injury and is being checked out for a possible DL stint.  Even if a player clears waivers, he could elect free agency, so the Phillies’ move won’t necessarily net the IronPigs a player in exchange for Cody.  And, I don’t necessarily see them driving a guy to North Carolina for the Charlotte series, so I assume they’ll be short until they get home.  By then, maybe Altherr?

Another move was made late Sunday as they left to go South (they flew this time…):  Colton Murray was sent to Reading, as Tyler Knigge came back up to the IronPigs.  An official roster/number sheet wasn’t distributed–we’ll have that for you when it’s available–perhaps not until the team returns home Tuesday.

The ‘Pigs are in Charlotte for a “wrap around” series this weekend–but only three games with Monday off.  They came through the four games in Gwinnett in two days due to rain, with a 1-3 record.  It’s disappointing, but the pitching didn’t get abused too much, and they should be in good shape to hit some homers in the Charlotte band box for Jordan Danks homecoming.

See you at the park,
