On The Road:

The ‘Pigs return home from a seven-game road trip to upstate New York.  After splitting a four-game series in Rochester, the Lehigh Valley team swept Syracuse to complete their road trip 5-2.  Six of the Seven games on this road trip were 1-run games:  It’s good to see the team winning the close ones and the bull pen shutting things down when needed.  Kudos!  Nice to see the 6-4 under “Last 10” in the standings below.  Still way back of the leaders, but good to see some winning baseball coming out of this group!

Player and Roster News:

Hector Neris is back from the Phillies.  Severino Gonzalez pitched well in the Phillies’ win last night.  Cody Asche and Domonic Brown have been playing the outfield corners for the ‘Pigs and batting in the top four every night.  Maikel Franco only made one start on the road trip before getting the call to Philadelphia.  Dustin McGowan, Chris Leroux, and Jayson Nix joined the IronPigs on the road trip–we’ll try to have an updated roster with uniform numbers up soon (Nix was wearing “4” on the trip).  Anthony Vasquez was promoted from Reading while Tyler Knigge was sent down to Reading.  Edgar Duran is on the DL with a hamstring.  David Buchanan is expected to be out 6-8 weeks with a severely sprained ankle.

With his superb start yesterday, the Aaron Nola watch has officially begun.  Phillies’ brass says he’s staying put, but I’ve heard some rumor out of Clearwater that pitchers are getting ready to move up to Reading.  Stay tuned!

Who’s Hot / Who’s Not:

Hot:

Dom Brown is hitting .462 since Franco’s promotion.

Russ Canzler is hitting .353 since Franco’s promotion, including a homer.

Tyler Henson has been hot lately (.368)–including some clutch RBI hits in the Syracuse series.

Chase d’Arnaud is hitting .301 overall, and scoring runs while leading off games.  He’s been the every day shortstop with the Duran injury.

Cesar Jimenez is has not been scored upon in his last 12 games.

Newly added to the rotation, Jason Berken is 1-1, 2.96 in his last 7 games.

Phillippe Aumont continues to pitch well as a starter, and can now be considered our “ace!”

Not:

Despite a 2/5 performance on Tuesday night, Cody Asche is hitting .250 since returning from the Majors.

Newly added Jayson Nix is only hitting .156 in the IL this season.

C Logan Moore, who has limited experience above single-A, has performed well behind the plate but his hitting only .158

INF Cord Phelps is hitting .196 on the season, but did go 2/4 yesterday, playing third base.

Series Summary:  Pitchers/Weather/Promotions

The Charlotte Knights (AAA, White Sox) come to town for their only visit in 2015 having just played three games in Moosic, winning two.  They’re in first place in their division and among the hottest teams in the IL.

Names you may recognize:  Former Reading pitcher Kyle Drabek has been working out of the ‘pen thus far for the Knights, but is scheduled to start during this series.  Veteran starter Brad Penny is in the rotation.  Former Reds’ system player Neftali Soto has been playing first base.  DiPro-favorite Matt Tuiasosopo is currently with the Knights.

Thursday:  7:05PM first pitch on “Kid’s Cap” night.  No rain is expected at game time, but it will be chilly tonight.  Joely Rodriguez gets the ball versus Kyle Drabek.  There’s a pre-game happy hour starting at 5:00PM featuring $1 hot dogs and $2 domestic drafts.

Friday:  7:05PM first pitch on “fireworks” night.  Good, warmer weather is expected for Jason Berken versus Chris Beck.  This will be the second “Kram-less” game of the season.

Saturday:  6:35PM first pitch for another “fireworks” night.  There will be an IronPigs Charities Book Drive, as well as a post-game concert and “trough party.”  More good weather is expected for Phillippe Aumont versus Junior Guerra.

Sunday:  1:35PM first pitch for “Military Appreciation Day” featuring a jersey auction benefiting IronPigs Charities.  The jersey design will be a camouflage.  It’s going to be a bit hotter, and as always on a Sunday, kids can run the bases following the game.  Adam Morgan is expected to be on the mound for the ‘Pigs to face Brad Penny.

**Once again, a post-game tailgate is planned for Sunday.  Stay tuned for details–mingle with NoiseNation staff and enjoy some post-game fellowship as we review the Charlotte series.**

What’s Next?

Following the game on Sunday, the IronPigs will be on the road for their “deep south” road trip to Gwinnett and Charlotte, or as Manager Dave Brundage calls it:  “Homecoming Trip.”   Four with the G-Braves followed by three again with the Knights–then a day off on Monday, June 1, and the IronPigs will return to Allentown on Tuesday June 2, to face the Toledo MudHens.

See you at the park,

@Kram209
