Starting Pitchers On The Move

By media accounts from Rochester, starting pitcher David Buchanan suffered a painful knee injury in today’s game, and left on a stretcher.  Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, Chad Billingsley was added to the 15-day DL with a neck strain.  Hector Neris is getting to the call to take Chad’s roster spot for the time being.

The injuries could set off a chain reaction of starting pitcher moves–or not so much.  Billingsley was slated to pitch for Philadelphia on Wednesday.  Wednesday’s scheduled starter for the IronPigs would be Severino Gonzalez, who already has his first MLB win under his belt. Alternately, the Phillies could pull Monday or Tuesday’s starters from the IronPigs–Phillippe Aumont or Adam Morgan.  They have the 40-man spot free for Aumont, with the recent demotion of Dustin McGowan, who could also get the call back.

In any case, this will leave the IronPigs short two starters–presumably Wednesday and Friday.  Currently on the IronPigs roster, Jason Berken could step back in and start again, as could new arrival Anthony Vasquez and veteran Dustin McGowan.

Meanwhile, in Reading, top pick Aaron Nola is slated to pitch Wednesday.  The Reading team is off on Thursday; both Jesse Biddle and Zach Eflin would be available to pitch Friday.

Stay tuned, as roster moves become official,
