RHP Hector Neris, who first received a call to the Majors late last summer, has again been called to help the Phillies. He’s added for bull pen depth as RHP Sean O’Sullivan has been put on the 15-day DL with left knee tendinitis.
For the Phillies, RHP Dustin McGowan will now start in Sean’s place tomorrow afternoon versus the Marlins, in what will probably be somewhat of a “bullpen” game. The Phillies opted for the McGowan/Neris combination over Adam Morgan (pitching tonight in Moosic), Paul Clemens (tomorrow’s scheduled IronPigs starter) and Chad Billingsley (not ready/tummy hurts) from the IronPigs.
No corresponding move has been announced for the IronPigs, to replace Neris on the roster–although Billingsley and Dom Brown are both with the team on MLB rehab assignments.
As far as Billingsley, he had been scheduled to start for Reading at home Monday night, but was a scratch due to pain in his side or a stomach ache, depending on which source you read. The official word is that he’s fine but hasn’t been re-scheduled to pitch. He is still listed as the IronPigs projected starter on Saturday at home versus Buffalo, though.
Hector’s a neat guy: Best of luck to him tomorrow as I imagine he’ll have the chance to get into the game. Without an off-day, that spot in the Phillies’ rotation comes around again quickly on Tuesday–we’ll have to wait and see how they handle it. For the IronPigs, nothing new to share on injured pitchers Jon Pettibone or Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez.
One more thing to think about: That rotation spot in Philly lines up with top pick Aaron Nola from Reading.
See you at the park,
