The sky didn’t give up much rain tonight but the excitement for Pig fans held out until the 9th inning!
Chad Billingsley, on rehab assignment, went 3.1 innings allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits and a walk. He struck out 4 but allowed 2 home runs.
Berken, Knigge and Neris all got some work in from the bullpen, Berken taken for 5 runs and Knigge for 2.
IronPig hitters were led by Cord Phelps who got the Pigs out to a lead in the 2nd inning with a 2 run homer, Darin Mastroianni helped for a 2nd inning RBI as well. A late single and two doubles got the Pigs some respect runs in the 8th.
The Pigs showed some life in the bottom of the 9th, using two walks and a hit to load the bases with no outs. Franco came up with a chance to be a ballpark hero but grounded into a fielder’s choice out at home plate. Then came Russ Canzler who singled in a run! Not yet enough to win the game but enough to force a pitching change. Up came Jordan Danks who promptly singled in two more runs! A pop out by Bogusevic became the 2nd out. With two outs and two runners on, down by 2 runs… Chris McGuinness walks on 4 pitches. Rene Garcia stepped into the batters box and grounded out to end the game. Good effort late by our Pigs but not quite enough.
Final Score: Pawsox 10 – Pigs 8
Tomorrow the Pigs will put Severino Gonzalez on the mound to face Pawtucket’s Henry Owens. It’s a 6:35pm start as usual for a Saturday game and also the first bobble head night of the season, featuring Maikel Franco.
