Calm Before the Storm

I don’t know what Dan and DiPro have planned.  I don’t know if Decal has any pre-season baseball wisdom for us.  But, what I do know is that it might get a little quiet around here for a few days.

While this is Holy Week in the Christian calendar, next week is “holy week” for Lehigh Valley Sports.  It’s gonna be non-stop and we’re using this week to prepare.  Here’s a sneak peak, starting this weekend:

Saturday 4/4 and Sunday 4/5

It’s Easter Sunday, so the IronPigs opening day roster could be announced on Saturday.  In any case, we’ll have a full overview for you with player capsules and analysis and reaction.  There could be a pod-cast involved as well.

Monday 4/6

Monday is “Media Day” with the IronPigs.  We’ll have a “News Team” and a camera crew on hand–hopefully with interviews and information to help you get to know this year’s team.  I may have some words and pictures up late Monday Night, and the video should follow as the editing and uploading allow.

Tuesday 4/7

The 222 Showcase at Coca Cola Park!  I’m looking forward to seeing both the IronPigs and Reading squads out on the field.

Wednesday 4/8

It’s “Hockey Night in Allentown” as the Penguins return from their home in the North.  Also, it’s SteelHawks Night at the hockey game.  Stop by the SteelHawks table and get more information about the upcoming season.  They’re undefeated right now, you know!

This night is also the “Meet the Players” dinner over at Coca Cola Park, in the club level.  Tickets are $35 each and include a dinner and time to get to know the players.  Tickets are limited, though.  Call Dana DeFilippo at (610) 841-1213 to check on availability.  More info: here

Thursday 4/9

Opening Day!  Pawtucket will be in town to open the 2015 IronPigs season with first pitch slated for 7:05PM and a pre-game “Happy Hour” starting at 5:05PM.  And it’s “Cap Night” courtesy of Service Electric TV!

Friday 4/10

Our first “double dip,” it’s a “Sports Night in Allentown” with the IronPigs at home for fireworks and the Phantoms at home for a Friday night T-Shirt giveaway and “Orange Out.”  Which game will YOU go to?  For me, I’ll probably stop by the PPL Center to pick up my free T-Shirts (like I need more orange T-Shirts, but…) and if the weather is bad, I’ll stick around for the game.  If it’s nice out, I’ll make my way over to baseball.

Inaugural Season T-Shirt. Orange.

Saturday 4/11

“Double Dip” number 2:  The IronPigs will start at 6:35 with Maikel Franco bobblehead night, and the Phantoms have Norfolk again with a 7:05PM puck drop for “Fan Appreciation Night.”  This is gonna be a tough one for me, as I really like being “appreciated.”   I’ll certainly make an appearance at The Coke to pick up my bobble, but then might make my way over to the “Ice Vault” to see the hockey.  The weather will have an impact, as well.

Sunday 4/12

A true “Double Header!”  We’ll be at the IronPigs game at 1:35PM, but then make our way over to the SteelHawks Home Opener well in advance of the 4PM kick-off.

So what can you expect from us?  We’ll do the best we can with all the sports to attend.  Stay tuned, or follow along on Twitter: @Kram209

  1. Iron Rail Trophy or bust … anything less would be uncivilized

  2. I was going to do something about March 30th being the anniversary of the Phillies visit to Coca-Cola Park back in 2008 but a dental emergency has put me on the shelf for a few days. I didn’t know shrimp roll from the local Chinese restaurant could do so much damage. Interesting trivia: Kyle Kendrick was the winning pitcher for the Phillies vs. the Ironpigs in the very first game ever played at Coca-Cola Park on 3/30/08 and then in 2009 he was the opening day pitcher for the Ironpigs. 2008 firsts: First single: Jimmy Rollins. First double: So Taguchi; First Triple: Brandon Watson; First HomeRun: Geoff Jenkins. Kyle Kendrick started for the Phillies & went 7 innings. He was followed by Will Savage (1 IP) and Ronald Hill (1 IP). The first error in Coca-Cola Park was made by Ironpigs shortstop Chris Woodward. That’s all I got.

  3. Just an FYI…. every game mentioned above will have LIVE coverage on Service Electric, in case you cannot make it to any of them.
