The Phantoms dropped a winnable game last night at the PPL Center, 3-2 to the Albany Devils. Following two losses to said Devils “down the shore,” the Phantoms have now dropped 3 of the 4 season match-ups. The fourth will be on Thursday, January 29 at the PPL Center for “Bring a Friend” night.
After a scoreless first period, the Phantoms took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission on a goal by “The Cuz.” Following the break, the Devils tallied an even strength goal and the go-ahead on the power play. The Phantoms were able to even the score again, 2-2, on a “Gord-o” score. Alas, another power play goal by the evil ones sent the Phantoms into a point-less purgatory. A whistle-happy ref crew had a hand in it, but ultimately the sloppy play of the Phantoms and the inability to capitalize on 7 power play opportunities resulted in the loss. A sell-out crowd of 8701 was on hand for the contest.
No change in the standings from tonight’s loss, but the Phantoms lose one of their “in hand” games versus the Bears and the Pens.
No preview blog for tonight’s battle with “Bimmington” as I’m off evaluating the relative qualities of fermented grapes. The game tonight is a complete sell-out; they tell me no tickets are available whatsoever. You’ll have to go to the secondary market to acquire them if you don’t have them already–even so, a popular secondary market is also sold out. It’s the hottest ticket in town tonight! I’ll be curious to see what attendance is announced. Do we know if they’ve been quoting “tickets” or “turnstiles?” I’d love to crack 9,000!
Latest word is that the high school hockey game tonight will take place AFTER the Phantoms game, so that may not be a suitable strategy for early access to the Bob Clarke autograph line. Best advice is to line up early for the 6PM gate opening–either at the main entrance or inside Timmy’s.
Arena News: Word is, the Renaissance Hotel connected with the arena is now open. The impact on Phantoms’ fans is that the hotel commandeers a ton of the parking within the arena garage/Linden Street entrance, for which they charge $12/$24 based on service. Those who were able to grab the limited spots available in that facility may need to make other arrangements. This may also have an impact on accessible parking options–which are still lacking according to accounts from my fellow fans. My hope is that it’s all a “work in progress” and that conditions will improve.
Tickets are flying for the “Bring A Friend” night with the Noise Nation and the “LV Phan Club.” I believe our current allotment may be exhausted already–but there are plans to acquire more! Those who’ve already contacted me will be OK, but anyone else interested–or any additional seats needed–let me know ASAP to be added to the queue. It’s “Half Price Hockey” for $12 on Thursday 1/29/2015, and it’s fabulous! email: Kramof209@gmail.com
See you at the arena (eventually),
