Roster Update 6/6/14

The Pigs lost a crazy game last night 10-9:  pitcher home runs, infield doubles, mid-game call-ups, me and DiPro in 116 bothering Cheryl–it had everything.  I’ve been busy with the event planning (see previous post) so I won’t summarize the whole game–but wanted to update some roster moves in advance of tonight’s game:

  1. Ronny Cedeno purchased by Phillies in the second inning.
  2. Cesar Jimenez DFA’d from Phillies–we’ll await his waiver/reporting status
  3. Luis Garcia, who had a great “rehab” inning last night, activated from MLB DL and optioned to IronPigs
  4. Tyson Gillies outrighted off 40-man roster, passes through waivers; remains with IronPigs.  He signed autographs for fans last night in the tunnel–one of the only players to do so.

See you at the park–and remember to sign up for our July 1 trip to Moosic!

  1. Ahhh, that explains why he was introduced in the starting lineup but pulled for a pinch hitter before his first at-bat. Just as I suspected. Good for Ronnie! He deserves the shot. He’s played extremely well and been the offensive spark in the leadoff spot in Clete’s absence. I’ll miss watching him play for the ‘Pigs, but I’m happy he’s getting another shot at the Big Leagues.

  2. The papers, at least the Express, should have the good taste to get the empty references to a story that Gillies was released (when in fact it was just being put on waivers) off the search engines.
