Our Steelhawks did indeed lose a game on Saturday to Nashville. I won’t make any excuses for the game. They didn’t win.
The loss more so on our minds this weekend was that of Steelhawk Chris Nunn.
Sadly, Chris passed away on Friday. A great player on the field and an even greater person off the field. He will be missed.
Christopher M. Nunn, 32, of Sinking Spring, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at Lehigh Valley Health Network at Cedar Crest, where he had been admitted April 23. Born December 5, 1981 in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the son of Michael C. Nunn and Lisa J. (Thompson) Hughes.
On June 20, 2013 he married the former Julie Robitaille in Nassau, the Bahamas and they would have celebrated their first wedding anniversary next month.
A 2000 graduate of Eastbank/Riverside High School, Chris received his Bachelor’s degree from Glenville State College and earned his Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Marshall University. While attending Glennville, he was a member of their football team, having won the conference championship, and on the track and field team where he won the conference championship in the shot-put twice. He was a DII All American mention offensive lineman. Chris played professional Arena League football for the Huntington Heros, the Reading Express and the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks. While with Reading Express, he helped lead the team to the AIFA Champions in 2011 and was All League Selection for three years.
His current occupation was the strength and conditioning coach at Conrad Weiser High School in Robesonia, PA.
He is survived by his loving wife, Julie; his mother, Lisa Hughes; his father, Mike Nunn; a sister, Kerri Nunn; a niece, Bailey McClure; his maternal grandmother, Lou Thompson; paternal grandfather, Owen Nunn; an aunt, Belinda Mullins and an uncle, David Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Conrad Weiser High School, 44 Big Spring Rd., Robesonia, PA 19551.
