Sixteen Point Effort Sparks Steelhawks to Victory

Bethlehem, PA: In release made today, the league office of the Professional Indoor Football League announced that Lehigh Valley Steelhawks Kicker Michael Barnard was selected as the Week Five Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the team’s 42-36 victory over the Trenton Freedom.
Barnard (6’1”, Farleigh Dickinson) was the difference maker offensively for the ‘Hawks on a night where both defenses were on display. The Steelhawks kicker started the night off right on the opening kickoff nailing a one point uno through the uprights to give the team a 1-0 lead. Down 36-35 to begin the fourth quarter, Barnard scored the only points in the last frame (seven) to give the team a 42-36 victory. On the night Barnard was 3-5 on field goals (49, 32, 21), hit three extra points, and delivered four unos for 16 points total.
Additionally the league announced that Columbus QB Antwon Young and Trenton LB Jeffery Morgan were named PIFL Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Players of the Week respectively for their efforts in Week Five.
Barnard and the Steelhawks return home this weekend for a rematch with the Harrisburg Stampede at 7 p.m. inside Stabler Arena. This “Family Fun Night” night game will be brought to the fans by Highmark Blue Shield, with the first 500 fans receiving a free thermometer.
